Made Possible With
Dog Treats, Love,
And YOU!

Many breeders choose to house their dogs in kennels and leave their puppies unattended for much of the day. If you have read much on our website, you know that is not how we work. We choose to have all our dogs (dams and sires) as well as puppies live and raised in a home! You are planning to bring your dog home to live with you—why would you want them to start out anywhere other than in a home, with people who will love them, and who will train them. And did we mention love them?!

Yet, our personal houses can’t provide space for too many dogs at one time. And can you imagine three litters of puppies all at once in one home?! Fun, yes! Manageable…maybe not.

We have created our Boise Golden’s Breeding Partner Program™ just for this reason. We have several different ways that partners can come alongside our breeding program and participate in providing top-notch dogs to many different families. We need YOU! You can help us by becoming either a Guardian Home, joining our Puppy-to-Guardian Home Program, or become a Puppy Trainer.

Guardian Home

Every one of our dogs (males and females) deserves a forever home to live in from day one. As our program continues to expand and as we add new dogs to replace dogs that are “retiring,” we have a constant need for loving, qualified, forever homes.

We add dogs to our program in one of two ways: We either 1) purchase a dog from outside our program to bring in new lineage and characteristics, or 2) keep a dog and then test it when it is old enough and then place qualified dogs with a home. These dogs are always older (six months to two years old) and are a great option for people who would like to skip the puppy and training phase while still getting a great dog.

As a Guardian Homes you take regular care and responsibility for one of our breeding dogs, care for the dog as their own throughout its life while working with us for the breeding season of that dog’s life, and then, when the dog retires from breeding, they own the dog free once their contract as a Guardian Home is completed. We also provide a small stipend for your time to help with each litter of puppies born or sired.

We continue to provide great puppies and our breeding dogs live with their forever family right from the start! Win-Win!

Puppy-to-Guardian Home Program

Many people who want to adopt a puppy do it specifically to have that “puppy” moment. They want the little fluff-ball that runs around and are excited to go through the puppy phase and to have a dog that is trained to their family and their desires right from the beginning. If you are already thinking of adopting a puppy, but are also interested in being a part of a breeing program and seeing them have puppies themselves (or be a stud), then our Puppy-to-Guardian Home Program may be for you!

How does this work?
You purchase your puppy as normal, but if you are willing to be in our Puppy-to-Guardian Home Program, you sign an addendum to your purchase contract that allows us to test the puppy again at the right age. If they pass and are a good option for our program we bring them back into our breeding program while you get to keep them as your dog.

What is the benefit to you?!
If a puppy passes and is brought back into our program we pay you back the cost of the puppy and you own it free after their breeding season is complete. We also provide a small stipend for each litter born or sired during your dogs breeding season.

Additionally, people who enter into our Puppy-to-Guardian Home Program skip the reservation line for a dog and get our “Boise Goldens” pick of the litter (as picked by Boise Goldens), when we are choosing to use that option on a litter.

You get a GREAT puppy, you get the “puppy phase,” and you get to experience your dog being bred while getting refunded any purchase price. A great choice for many people!

Puppy Trainers

Once our puppies move to a weaning home (Days 29-56), they are trained extensively. New sounds, water introduction, inside and outside, learning to go potty on command and to hold potty inside. And how not to chew on furniture!

During this time our weaning houses do a lot of puppy care and training, but even they need a break! This is where our Puppy Trainers come in! Puppy Trainers are paid, background-checked, and trained employees of Boise Goldens who come to a weaning house to care for puppies when the weaning house parents need a break.

At first, puppies stay awake about 20-30 minutes for play and training, and then nap for about 1-2 hours. By the end of this season puppies are awake for about 60-90 minutes and nap about 1 hour.

During the awake time Puppy Trainers help continue the puppies’ training and care as well as caring for the mother (dam). When the puppies sleep, Puppy Trainers help clean up and chill.

This is a great job for anyone who would like to use the down-time to get other projects done (e.g. studying, other remote work, etc.) As long as you can be fully present and complete all the puppy tasks when they are awake and the small amount of cleaning up when they are asleep, it is a very easy and fun gig with some flexibility! Who doesn’t like playing with puppies?!

Do any of these sound like you?!

Then please get in touch!

If you are interested in being a Guardian Home, Guardian Whelper, or Puppy Trainer we would love to talk to you. Positions and needs are constantly changing and we always keep a running list of interested people. Guardian Homes and Puppy-to-Guardian Home Program participants must live in the greater Boise, Idaho area or nearer Treasure Valley (e.g. Meridian, Eagle, Kuna) within 30 minutes of downtown Boise. Similarly, our Puppy Trainers must be able to work in areas within the same range where our Weaning Homes are located.
